Hmmm. Qatar looks to be up to something.
Digital Photography Review has an article which shows Carl Zeiss' brand new humongo-lens. It's the largest telephoto lens released to the consumer. Weighing in at 564 lbs (256 kg) and dwarfing the camera, it has the ability to zoom in on your pimples like no other. It's apparently built for staring at outer space and taking pictures, but I have my doubts.
If you look at one of the pictures, you can see Qatar's emblem on the side along with Arabic script. The words spell "Super Tele Lens" - same as the English side.
The thing is: I haven't heard of Qatar doing anything in the space industry. The country is too small, and unless we decided to search for camels in space, I'm not buying it. My bet is that the lens was purchased for spying on Iran ports.
But it is completely unfounded; a pure guess.
